Small-craft pier: technical inspection and strengthening design
On one section of the pier the load-bearing supports had partially collapsed. The 9.5 × 48.25 m section rests on three rows of steel piles, 550 mm in diameter and 12 m long.

- Findings:
- Pile corrosion caused by the falling sea level
- Loss of connection between piles and the superstructure
- Seabed scour of more than 2 metres from storm waves
Strengthening solution
• Tying the piles together with No. 24 I-beams
• No. 18 I-beams under the deck slabs
• Diagonal bracing from 140×140×6 mm tubes
• Seabed protection with tetrapods or gravel-filled bags
